Chris Valaskatgis

Manolin Charters No matter the season, and no matter the species I always find myself inspired and energized to put in the work to figure out the pattern of the day. Whether it is trolling...for rainbow trout in my aluminum boat in the spring or going toe-to-toe with a giant bluefin tuna offshore, you will know that I am in my happy place when I am out fishing, I started fishing freshwater with my father and mother for largemouth bass in our local ponds since I could walk. When I was 8 years old, my family bought a saltwater boat and that is when I fell in love with saltwater fishing. I spent my summers in high school and college working as a mate on the local party boats. Making new friends and fishing everyday was a way of life I could get behind. It was a great opportunity to learn how a charter fishing business operates. It was very hard work, but I loved every minute of it. As soon as I graduated college, I got my Captain's License and 2022 will mark our 10th year as a charter company (Manolin Charters in Salisbury, MA). We run two boats and two captains and fish everyday throughout the summer. Over the years, my primary love has been striped bass fishing. I love the challenge and the variability of striper fishing. Stripers are unique to othwr fish because of the myriad of situations you can catch them. Everyday you have to figure out what they want and how to entice a bite with your presentation. Fishing for stripers in my local forces an angler to use a variety of techniques, and trying to master new techniques is one of the most exciting parts of fishing for me. Developing relationships with my clients and seeing them have success has been one of the greatest rewards of being a charter captain, and nothing beats seeing kids catch a big one!

I like every part of fishing, the people that I meet and places it takes me. I like fishing my local spots and always trying to get better at my craft. I like fishing new...places and learning new spots. There is something special about not knowing what is around the next bend of a river. Or putting pieces of the puzzle together and figuring out where and when fish will be in places I have never been. I love that no two days are ever the same. There are so many variables and fishing keeps me humble.
