MLF Pro Gerald Spohrer Takes Second Place on First Day
A cold start greeted the best Largemouth Bass Fishermen in the world for the kick-off of the 2022 MLF Bass Pro Tour. Northern Louisiana hosted the first stop on the tour at Lake D’Arbonne, Caney Creek, and Bussey Break this week amidst cold temperatures and strong winds. Also debuting this week was the announcement of Nomad Design Tackle’s partnership with Louisiana’s own Gerald Spohrer. Spohrer and Nomad had been working on a partnership throughout fall and winter and he was the first tournament angler to fish Nomad’s new hardbait LMB lures.
And what a debut! Spohrer put the new Atlas 55 Squarebill Crankbait to the ultimate test, fishing it on a hard day one qualifying round and in a day full of surprises, took 2nd place with the brand-new bait. Spohrer commented “The ability to slow roll and the Atlas' wide wobble was the difference that allowed me to target sluggish fish”.
As new sponsors to MLF and Bassmaster, Nomad was beyond excited to start this amazing journey so strongly. When asked about the situation Damon Olsen, owner of Nomad Design Tackle said, “While we knew we had a special line up of new Freshwater baits, we never expected to come out of the box so strong! We are thrilled! We know we have to do work to gain trust in this special fishery but this moves the ball forward in a big way! Congrats to Gerald!”
Nomad Design Tackle is known the world over as a top of the line Saltwater Tackle Company. Nomad uses much of the same technology in it’s new Freshwater offering that makes it a household name with big game tournament anglers, captains, and guides. They have put out a line of baits with 2 Crankbaits, 2 Top Waters, a revolutionary Lipless Crank, Jerkbaits, and the Maverick which defies description.
Gerald went on to qualify for the knockout round and gave it his all to put his new sponsor’s lures to the test at Caney Creek. Look out for more Nomad appearances as Gerald continues to fish this Spring. Congratulations Gerald and thank you for one heck of a debut into the MLF!
