MLF Pro Gerald Spohrer Takes Second Place on First Day
A Strong Debut - Gerald Spohrer and Nomad Design at the MLF Bass Pro Tour Kickoff
February 5–10, 2022 — Lake D’Arbonne, Louisiana
A cold, windy morning greeted the best Largemouth Bass anglers in the world as the 2022 Major League Fishing Bass Pro Tour kicked off across Lake D’Arbonne, Caney Creek, and Bussey Break in Northern Louisiana. Among the debut highlights was the announcement of Nomad Design Tackle’s new partnership with Louisiana native Gerald Spohrer who made history as the first tournament angler to fish Nomad’s new Freshwater hardbait lineup.
And what a debut it was. Fishing the brand-new Atlas 55 Squarebill Crankbait, Spohrer faced tough, cold-front conditions but still powered through to finish 2nd place in the Qualifying Round. “The ability to slow-roll the Atlas and its wide wobble was the difference that allowed me to target sluggish fish,” Gerald explained.
As new sponsors to both Major League Fishing and Bassmaster, Nomad Design couldn’t have asked for a better start. Founder Damon Olsen shared, “We knew we had something special with our new freshwater baits, but we never expected to come out of the gate this strong. We’re thrilled! We know we still have work to do to earn the trust of this incredible fishery, but this is a huge step forward. Congrats to Gerald!”
Globally recognized for premium saltwater tackle, Nomad has now brought that same technology and durability to freshwater anglers. The new lineup includes two crankbaits, two topwaters, a revolutionary lipless crank, jerkbaits, and the Maverick, a lure that defies classification.
Gerald went on to qualify for the Knockout Round, continuing to showcase Nomad’s innovation and performance under tournament pressure. With his Louisiana grit and Nomad’s cutting-edge designs, this partnership is just getting started.
Congratulations to Gerald Spohrer on a powerful debut and thank you for putting Nomad Design Tackle on the Bass Pro Tour map in style.
